Uganda gorilla country

Trek in
to meet
the mountain gorillas

Half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas live in the forests of south-west Uganda. Kiguba Adventure Safaris runs small, permit-secured treks into Bwindi and Mgahinga — and the wildlife circuits around them — with licensed local guides who have walked these trails their whole lives.

What a gorilla trek is

One morning. One family. Sixty minutes.

You set out at dawn from a park briefing point. Trackers have already gone ahead to find the family from where they nested the night before. The walk can be forty minutes or it can be six hours — the forest decides.

When you reach them, the clock starts: one hour with a gorilla group, at seven metres, no flash. Then the walk back out. It is strenuous, muddy and, by every account we have collected, unforgettable.

How a trek comes together

From email to trailhead

  1. Tell us the shape of the trip

Dates, how many of you, how hard you want to walk, and whether gorillas are the whole trip or one chapter of a longer safari.

  2. We secure permits and build the route

Gorilla permits are limited and dated — we hold them first, then fit lodges, drivers and park transfers around the confirmed days.

  3. You land; we run the ground

Airport pickup, a briefed driver-guide for the whole route, and a phone that is answered 24/7 while you’re in country.
