Four hours with a gorilla family instead of one — alongside the researchers and trackers still habituating them, in Bwindi’s southern Rushaga sector.
Only a handful of these permits are issued each day. It is longer, harder and less predictable than a standard trek, and the closest a visitor gets to how habituation actually works.

Head for the southern sector of Bwindi. Afternoon at leisure at your lodge with views over the forest.
- Forest & community day
An acclimatising day: a guided Batwa forest experience or a lighter nature walk, plus time to rest before the long day ahead.
- Gorilla habituation experience
Out early with the research team. Expect a hard walk, long waits while the group moves, and four full hours once you are with them.
