The golden monkeys of Mgahinga

Uganda’s other primate permit costs USD 60 and rarely sells out. The troop lives in the bamboo zone on the lower slopes of the Virungas, and a visit is usually a gentle 1–2 hour walk.

They move fast and constantly, so it’s a different kind of hour to the gorillas — less awe, more delight. Pair it with the Mgahinga gorilla family or a Sabinyo climb and you have a full, uncrowded day.
